Engineering team Nebra ZK has published comprehensive benchmark results demonstrating a greater than 90% reduction in verification gas costs for Ethereum smart contracts. By utilizing its Universal Proof Aggregator (UPA), Nebra combines multiple independent Groth16 and Plonk zero-knowledge proofs into a single aggregated recursive proof verified on Ethereum mainnet.
Verifying zero-knowledge proofs directly on Ethereum has traditionally imposed significant overhead, often costing between 250,000 and 300,000 gas per proof. For high-frequency zk-oracles and micro-rollups, these fees represent an existential operating expense. Nebra's batch verification mechanism amortizes the gas expense across hundreds of proofs, lowering per-proof costs down to a fraction of traditional levels.
Backed by venture leaders including Nascent and Bankless Ventures, the protocol's incentivized Sepolia testnet is currently onboarding institutional rollup developers and decentralized identity applications seeking cost-effective cryptographic verification.
