OpenGradient has deployed its public Sepolia testnet execution layer, marking a breakthrough in the convergence of decentralized finance and artificial intelligence. The protocol, supported by $8.5 million from a16z Crypto Startup Accelerator (CSX), SV Angel, and Coinbase Ventures, brings verifiable machine learning inference directly into the blockchain runtime.
Traditional smart contracts are strictly deterministic and lack the capability to compute floating-point machine learning inferences natively. OpenGradient bridges this gap by offering a custom EVM execution framework where developers can deploy model weights directly on-chain and trigger inference calls within single-block transactions. Use cases demonstrated on the testnet include dynamic lending liquidation parameters, algorithmic liquidity rebalancing, and automated risk scoring.
Early participants can interact with testnet demonstration dApps, request faucet compute credits, and test machine learning inference contracts. OpenGradient has confirmed that early developer engagement, model deployments, and telemetry feedback will factor into future decentralized community governance and network incentive allocations.
