The Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies have officially deployed Agile Coretime to the Polkadot Relay Chain mainnet, completing the long-awaited phase one of the Polkadot 2.0 transformation. This release completely dismantles the historical 2-year parachain slot auction mechanism in favor of a flexible, fluid blockspace market.
Under the new paradigm, execution capacity across the Polkadot supercomputer is represented as discrete "coretime". Projects can purchase Bulk Coretime in recurring 28-day billing cycles or utilize Instantaneous On-Demand Coretime for intermittent computation. Furthermore, unutilized coretime can be secondary-marketed as non-fungible tokens or split across multiple smaller applications, driving resource efficiency to unprecedented levels.
This architectural shift drastically reduces operational barriers for early-stage decentralized applications while positioning Polkadot as an enterprise-grade cloud compute marketplace. Community developers, rollups, and zero-knowledge verification layers can now deploy sovereign execution logic without locking millions of dollars in crowdloan collateral.
